Man-observing-the-world is one of the most loved mythical figures among the Khanty. My version of the song is based on Sergei Vasilevich Ketchimovs variation of it. This song is well known among the Mansi as well and I had the pleasure to play it with a Mansi composer and musician Vladimir Shestalov in 2011. Later in 2014 I also had the chance to visit Russkinskie village but did not meet with the Ketchimovs unfortunately. I was surprised to see how valued the recordings made by these Finnish scholars were, because they inspired the younger generation to carry on playing traditional music inside the village.
